Melina Morrison – Leadership, Communication and Growth
“I have worked for more than two decades for the cooperative movement, both internationally and in Australia, dedicating my time to raising the profile of this powerful, sustainable business model.”
Thank you for the honour and opportunity to nominate for ICA President. I am humbled by the support I received and by the opportunity to engage with many cooperators along the way on the future of the ICA and the co-op movement.
I wish to congratulate Ariel Guarco on his re-election and extend my thanks to fellow nominee for ICA president, Jean-Louis Bancel. I would also like to thank the outgoing ICA directors who are finishing their terms, for their commitment to work for a more cooperative world.
The opportunity and the challenge for the ICA aligns with a mood for change in the community towards enterprise models that offer a more positive future environmentally, economically and ethically. I believe we are ready for this challenge and know that together we can unleash the power of cooperatives!
Thank you again for your support for my campaign and whilst not successful in these elections, I remain a devoted champion of the co-operative and mutual movement.
Read my speech to the ICA General Assembly on Monday, 20 June 2022.
I am the CEO of the national apex body for cooperatives in Australia, the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals, and I hope you will consider my nomination for ICA President at the 2022 General Assembly in Seville.
“As a president of the Co-operative Group, I came to know Melina as an outstanding and passionate co-operator. At this moment of global peril, our Movement needs its strongest and most passionate voice to make the urgent case for a more co-operative and fairer world. No co-operator is more capable and more passionate than Melina Morrison. I am delighted to give Melina my 100% support in her campaign for the presidency of the ICA. Go Melina!”
“I have great pleasure in endorsing Melina Morrison for the role of ICA President. She and I worked closely to get the Australian Business Council for Co-operatives and Mutuals off the ground and her record as the inaugural CEO speaks for itself. Her hard work and commitment to co-operatives in Australia has led to a growing sector and a better operating environment for co-ops. I’ve no doubt that given the chance she has the skills and tenacity to replicate these successes at the international level.”
